Kegiatan memancing bisa dilakukan di daerah perairan mana saja. Salah satu tempat yang menjadi favorit para pemancing ialah sungai. Beruntung kita tinggal di Indonesia yang mempunyai begitu banyak sungai dan anak sungai. Di sungai, kita bisa menemukan berbagai macam ikan air tawar yang menggoda untuk segera dipancing. Misalnya seperti ikan gabus, ikan batok, ikan wader, ikan sepat, ikan lele, ikan nila, ikan mujair, ikan mas, dan lain-lain.
Memancing di sungai tidak melulu harus menggunakan umpan yang alami. Anda bisa mengandalkan umpan buatan yang terbuat dari plastik, kayu, atau logam. Kelebihan dari pemakaian umpan buatan yaitu kita bisa menghemat biaya memancing karena umpan bisa dipakai sebanyak beberapa kali. Umpan buatan juga merupakan pilihan alternatif yang bagus, terutama untuk anda yang kerap merasa jijik apabila harus menggunakan umpan mancing yang alami.
Berikut ini beberapa jenis umpan buatan untuk memancing ikan di sungai yang wajib Anda ketahui :
Posisi
Berdasarkan posisinya di dalam air, ada 4 jenis umpan buatan yaitu :
- Floating Type
Ini adalah umpan yang terapung di permukaan air sungai. Ada pula yang menyebutnya sebagai top water lure atau surface lure. Umpan ini paling cocok digunakan untuk memancing ikan-ikan yang biasa berenang di permukaan sungai.
- Suspending Type
Ini adalah umpan yang melayang di air. Istilah lainnya yaitu rapping plug. Jadi posisi umpan ini akan berada di tengah-tengah kedalaman air antara terapung dan tenggelam. Salah satu kemampuan yang harus dimiliki oleh umpan ini agar bisa menarik perhatian ikan air tawar adalah bergerak secara zig-zag.
- Sinking Type
Ini adalah umpan yang tenggelam di dasar air sungai. Karena terbuat dari bahan logam, umpan ini cepat sekali turun ke dasar air dan tenggelam. Anda yang sedang mengincar ikan predator yang hidup di sungai bisa mengandalkan umpan ini. Pasalnya kebanyakan ikan predator yang berukuran besar senang berada di dasar air.
- Diving Type
Ini adalah umpan yang mempunyai kemampuan menyelam di air. Umpan ini pada dasarnya akan terapung di permukaan air. Umpan akan menyelam dan bergerak turun secara perlahan apabila kita menariknya. Semakin banyak kita menarik umpan ini, maka posisinya pun akan semakin berada di dasar air. Namun semua umpan yang berjenis diving type memiliki daya selam dengan kedalaman yang berbeda-beda.
Bahan
Ada banyak bahan yang dapat digunakan untuk membuat umpan buatan, di antaranya :
- Karet
Karet sering digunakan untuk membikin umpan buatan. Begitu pula dengan karet sintetis serta silikon. Umpan yang terbuat dari karet terkenal lebih awet, berbentuk menarik, dan gampang digunakan. Biasanya produsen mencetak umpan ikan dari karet ini dengan bentuk menyerupai cumi-cumi, udang, ikan kecil, dan lain-lain.
- Logam
Logam merupakan bahan baku yang digunakan untuk membuat umpan dasaran. Misalnya seperti metal jig, spun, dan kucir. Kilauan yang terdapat pada umpan logam terbukti secara efektif mampu menarik perhatian ikan-ikan besar untuk mendekatinya.
- Non-logam
Beberapa bahan yang termasuk dalam kategori non-logam antara lain kayu, plastik, fiber, dan resin. Bahan-bahan ini kami kelompokkan dalam kategori yang sama karena karakteristik yang dimilikinya hampir mirip antara satu dengan yang lainnya. Contoh umpan buatan untuk ikan air tawar yang terbuat dari material non-logam yaitu froggy dan minnow.
